  1. Every student has his/her own pencil in their desk. I usually choose 1-2 students per year to be the pencil sharpeners. They call students up by tables and sharpen their pencils. Students must hand pencils back and forth with the eraser pointed at the other person. If a new pencil is needed, students are allowed to go to their cubbies and grab one. This works great for my 25 firsties.

  3. I have an electric sharpener that I operate because we have burned out many a sharpener. I would LOVE one of these sharpeners that the kids could use and that would LAST!

  4. I have a classroom helper that sharpens dull pencils every day! :P

  5. All students have 2 pencils in their school box at the beginning of the day. If they need a new pencil, I have dull and sharp pencil cups that they can quietly get up and take care of without bothering anyone else.

  6. Everyone has their own pencil and I have cups for dull and sharp pencils. Our housekeepers (usually 2 kids) are in charge of sharpening the dull pencils and keeping that area clean/organized. Kids can get up to get their own pencils when needed - after we have a discussion about what counts as dull.

  7. I have one container for sharpened pencils and another one for sharpened pencils. If a student's pencil gets dull they can quietly get up and replace it with a freshly sharpened one. :)

  8. I have students sharpen 2 pencils in the morning. If they break, then they may sharpen them as long as I am not talking.

  9. My students bring two packs of pencils at the beginning of the year. They keep one in their desk and give me another to keep until after Christmas. I ask them to "donate" four pencils to our "oops! I forgot my pencil" bin, which they can borrow from as needed. I have a pencil technician who sharpens these every day. I have designated times when the students can sharpen their own pencils but there is always a line in the mornings. I need another sharpener!

    1. I have a student assigned to collecting pencils at the end of the day so that I can sharpen them. I would love to have a pencil sharpener that the kids could use on their own...one less thing off of my plate! Teaching with Giggles

  11. I don't manage pencils. The students are responsible for their own pencils. They are to make sure when they come in the morning that they have 2 sharp pencils. We don't share supplies.

  12. Managing pencils are the students responsibility.

Thanks for the giveaway. My favorite sharpener is the green one .

  13. I just got my black one in the mail yesterday. I LOVE IT! The kiddos have been patiently waiting for it! I know they would LOVE a new one...would love a pink one to support the cause!

  14. In my classroom, we only sharpen pencils at the end of the day, never during the day. The kids are responsible for making sure they have at least two sharpened pencils ready to go for tomorrow. I hate how noisy our pencil sharpener is, so it doesn't run during the day! Thanks for the chance to win a QUIET one!

  15. Each kid is responsible for their own. Our sharpener in class is so bad the kids have their own little plastic ones. We wind up with pencil sharpening shrapnel everywhere.

  16. How do I manage pencils? Not very well. We have been in school a total of 12 days and I think we've gone through about 100 pencils. They disappear-vanish! I try to sharpen just in the morning, but we go through pencils so fast, we hear the poor electric sharpener whining trying to do a somewhat decent job.

  17. The kids put them back into a jar after using them. My big thing is losing erasers interestingly enough.

  18. I sharpen pencils in the morning and then after lunch if needed.

  19. Two shared pencil baskets per table group. I sharpen 6 pencils for each basket in the afternoons and hope that will last them the whole day!

  20. Every student should have at least 2 sharpened pencils to start the day - we often will do random checks and "fine" students our team money if they do not have pencils ready. Students can also purchase pencils from us for $3 "Infinity" dollars if they need a pencil... I allow sharpening during our homeroom time or during independent work if both of their pencils are broken -- which is usually a rare occurrence in 5th grade.

  21. I have a sharp and not sharp basket and a student sharpens them at the end of the day. This year I'm also trying little flags made out of fun colored tape to match table totes.

  22. Pencils are assigned to tables and they share them. They are pretty good at it too.

  23. All of my students have classroom jobs. Each week someone is assigned the job of "pencil sharpener". This student is the only one allowed to sharpen pencils other than me. In the writing center I keep a cup for sharpened pencils and a cup for unsharpened pencils. She keeps the sharpened cup full and other can switch theirs out whenever needed. It works really well actually!

  24. At the beginning of the year, we pool all the pencils. I ask for #2 yellow only pencils on the supply list. I have two pencil baskets for my groups of four students. They contain 4-5 pencils each (8-10 pencils per group). Students may not sharpen pencils until the end of the day. If a pencil breaks, they switch it for a sharpened one from their group basket. At the end of the day (every 1-2 days), I sharpen pencils with my electric sharpener, or, when there's enough time, I let each group sharpen their pencils using a manual sharpener. I think it would be great to have a Classroom Friendly Sharpener for each group.

  25. My students sharpen their own pencils in the morning and after lunch. I'm needing another one of these sharpeners so I can show them how to use it and they can do it by themselves instead of me doing them all.

  26. I have 2 baskets : sharpened & unsharpened. When a child needs a pencil, he puts the broken one i the unsharpened basket & takes 1 from the other basket. dbednarsk@yahoo.com

  27. Buckets - sharpen bucket that gets sharpened at the end of the day by a job chart. All buckets get sharpened pencils each day.

  28. We have a a mason jar we keep pencils in and we have an old electric pencil sharpener a teacher friend gave us that she was throwing out because it only works half of the time.
LOL. but it gets the job done....some of the time.

  29. I have students sharpen 2 pencils in the morning. I keep a pencil box in a supply basket attach table with extra pencils. This way no one is sharpening their pencils throughout the day. They trade their unsharpened pencil for the sharpened pencil and no one has to get out of their seat!

  30. I have a small classroom so pencils is not a huge issue for me. I just have a dedicated space for them in the writing supplies station. I'm in a new classroom this year though and I'm pretty sure my pencil sharpener doesn't work, so I would love to win this!

  31. I'm a homeschool teacher with just one student, so managing pencils isn't difficult. We place his pencils for today in his pencil pouch, ready sharpened ones in his pencil box and ones needing to be sharpened on the dresser.

I've added your giveaway to my link up: Chasing Grades

  32. Well, I thought I had a system that worked. I had a "sharpened pencils" bin and a "needs to be sharpened" bin. My students picked one up when they came to class and if one became too dull or broke they put them in the other bin. But just this week, someone has started tearing the erasers off. So today I spent some time putting duck tape flags on the ends of my pencils in hopes that either it will stop the pencil abuse or I'll at least catch whoever is doing it! So annoying! :) But, I always sharpen the pencils myself. I can't stand listening to the sharpener run and run and run when my students do it themselves! A pink Classroom Friendly Pencil Sharpener would certainly help with that!!!
